Connecting Sisters with Islam and Connecting Sisters with the World

ConvertConnect is a bridge that sensitively delivers a voice of awareness that echoes strong emphasis on education understanding and participation through exploring knowledge from within and beyond the Islamic lenses.

The program aims to strengthen the bonds amongst all Muslim and non Muslim women. It is to establish opportunities to demystify stereotypes and introduce possible solutions. It is to preserve the true integrity and its teachings by sharing it through knowledge within our own community the wider society.

To strengthen the bonds amongst New Muslims, Revert, Convert, & born Muslim sisters in the community build on an established common ground.

  • To provide strong emphasis on the common principles of Islam which all Muslims share
  • To establish opportunities between New Muslims
  • To discuss important issues to NZ Muslims and provide solutions
  • To clarify misconceptions about Islam
  • To promote the principles of Islam
  • Promoting preventative family violence education – actions and awareness intervention
  • Providing a platform for women to discuss issues in a safe and open forum
  • Welcoming new sisters with families into our community
  • Promoting Muslim community interaction
  • Connecting  the Muslim community with the wider community and promoting understanding
  • Spiritual support and referrals
  • Promoting personal growth and development

This is a fortnightly workshop with three separate programmes operating consecutively in the one large hall.

Strategies

Meeting fortnightly with sisters and their children to learn about Islam and to strengthen spirituality and faith in each other

  • Invite guest speakers to attend the meetings
  • Provide activities for the children, encouraging interaction and play
  • Provide a platform for youth to explore their options and develop their skills

Desired Outcome

  • To promote the distinctions of Islam in relation to other religions and     beliefs in a respected and tolerated way.
  • To promote peace.
